Informative Walk along the Hildapromenade

The Hildapromenade is being made fit for the future step by step: New trees, modern drinking fountains, and innovative measures for rainwater usage exemplify how climate adaptation can be implemented in public spaces. By the end of November 2025, the first new trees were planted. By 2028, around 150 new trees are to be planted in total. The aim is to replace the existing monoculture of the former avenue with a greater diversity of climate-resilient tree species and to make the green corridor more resilient to heat, heavy rain, and storms. At the same time, the Hildapromenade remains an important green axis between Mühlburg and Weststadt and will be further strengthened as a space for staying and recreation. Additionally, the implementation of the new bench concept has also begun. As part of climate adaptation, new drinking fountains are also being installed. The first barrier-free drinking fountain in the city at Fliederplatz shows how public spaces can be adapted to increasing heat. The modern stainless steel model with an integrated dog bowl allows all people easy access to free drinking water and significantly improves the quality of stay in public spaces, especially on hot days. Structural measures also play an important role: For example, a roof water collection system is planned at the Budoclub building to use rainwater for the irrigation of green areas in the future. During the walk, interested participants will gain insights into the new tree and bench concept, the Karlsruhe drinking fountain concept, and other measures for climate adaptation. Together we will take a look at how sustainable urban development and climate-resilient open spaces are being implemented on site.
