When Magic is Unleashed to Save the World
A fantastic adventure is brewing at the Young State Theatre Karlsruhe: Michael Ende's The Satanarchaeolügenialkohöllische Wish Punch combines dark humor, rapid situational comedy, and an ecological message into a stage experience for all generations from eight years old.
A Hellish Plan Wobbles
New Year's Eve is just around the corner, but Professor Beelzebub Irrwitzer and his Aunt Tyrannja Vamperl have not yet fulfilled their contracts with Hell. Spreading diseases, poisoning rivers, exterminating animal species, and throwing the climate out of balance: The time pressure is mounting as the High Council of Animals has long become suspicious.
With Tomcat Maurizio and Raven Jakob Krakel, two resourceful spies are on the trail of the environmental destroyers. The old Wish Punch is supposed to save the devilish plan. But its magic turns wishes into their opposites - a dramatic setup for mix-ups, surprising twists, and witty wordplay.
Michael Ende's Classic as Lively Stage Art
The production in a version by Birga Ipsen takes the audience right into a world of magic, megalomania, and responsibility. Direction, acting skills, and dramaturgy allow the contrasts between hellish busyness and animal intuition to meet immediately.
The set design and costumes by Marie Charlotte Vecchio support the fantastic character of the story. Sudden lighting transitions, blinking lights, total darkness, loud noises, and music are among the announced theatrical means. Direct interaction with the audience and actors in the audience creates an immediate theater atmosphere.
Rapid Theater for Young and Adult Audience
The production is aimed at visitors aged eight and above. In about 70 minutes without a break, a fast-paced rescue mission unfolds, addressing environmental destruction, greed for power, and the strength of shared responsibility with wit and ingenuity.
The audience's reactions occur right in the midst of the action: between magical recipe, animal investigators, and hellish time pressure. The Young State Theatre transforms Michael Ende's beloved story into a sensory stage experience with acoustic surprises, changing lighting moods, and great joy in performance.
