Thoughts on Peace: An Evening of Listening and Reflecting Together
Peace begins with the willingness to look, listen, and protect the dignity of humanity. In the Ulrich-Bernays Hall of the Adult Education Center Karlsruhe, the lecture invites a serious and at the same time open confrontation with the consequences of war for people, society, and moral consciousness.
War in Close Proximity
After decades of peace, war has come closer to the European consciousness again. Prof. Dr. Helmut Jaschke focuses on the destruction of life, body, and soul, as well as the damages to cultural goods, infrastructure, and nature. The devastation of language and moral orientation is also among the topics of this evening.
Traumatic Consequences Across Generations
Prof. Dr. Helmut Jaschke, emeritus professor of Catholic theology and religious education at the Karlsruhe University of Education and a therapeutic companion, deals with the traumatic consequences of war. The focus is on experiences that do not disappear with the end of a conflict but can continue to affect families and generations.
Lecture, Questions, and Encounters
The lecture combines theological reflection, pastoral sensitivity, and social responsibility. Afterwards, attendees will have the opportunity to raise their own questions and engage in conversation with one another. A small gathering allows space for personal encounters and quiet reflection.
Supported by a Committed Cooperation
The organizer is the Working Group de brevitate vitae, which deals with the theme of the brevity of life. Among others involved are the Life Working Group Karlsruhe, the Elderly Life Department of the Protestant Church in Karlsruhe, the Roncalli Forum Educational Center, the German War Graves Commission, the Adult Education Center Karlsruhe, and Wirkstatt e.V.
Conclusion
The event provides space for a broader understanding of faith: for reflection, conscience formation, and a supportive community. Those who wish to understand peace not just as a political catchphrase but as a human and spiritual task will find impulses, exchange, and an atmosphere of attentive listening this evening.
