When Knowledge Influences Political Decisions
How do scientific insights enter political decision-making processes? And what role does scientific advice play when societal questions need to be answered under time pressure? The NaWik-TRIALOG „Politics & Science – Knowledge. Advising. Deciding.“ will address these questions on November 4, 2026, at TRIANGEL Karlsruhe.
Three Perspectives, One Controversial Topic
From 5 to 6 PM, science, politics, and journalism will come together in a public panel discussion. The focus will be on the collaboration between research and politics, the significance of robust insights for political decisions, and the competencies that scientists need for successful political advising.
The event emphasizes dialogue rather than frontal presentations. Different perspectives will engage in conversation, friction points will become visible, and the audience will have the opportunity to pose their own questions to the panel. The atmosphere at TRIANGEL combines professional exchange with an open event experience at the intersection of science, business, and society.
Experience from Science and Journalism
Prof. Dr. Armin Grunwald, an expert in technology assessment, technology ethics, and scientific political advice, will be present. He leads the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the Office for Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag. In his work, he advises parliaments and political institutions.
Richard A. Fuchs brings in the perspective of science journalism. The media trainer and consultant for knowledge organizations was a political correspondent for Deutsche Welle for over ten years at the capital studio of the Federal Press Conference. Today, he works cross-media and supports research institutions in conveying complex content in an understandable and decision-relevant manner.
The political perspective will be complemented by another announced participant. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Ulrike Brandt-Bohne.
