Rilke's Search for the Divine in Word and Sound
On Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the series “Through the Year with Rilke” in the Kleine Kirche Karlsruhe combines poetic language art with musical intimacy. Under the title “I Find You in All Things”, the evening is dedicated to Rainer Maria Rilke's relationship with God, the mystery, and the quiet perception of the world.
A Literary Experience Between Faith and Openness
Rilke's image of God evades simple answers. God appears in his work as an open, seeking reality, which can be sensed in things, moments, and experiences of everyday life. The reading leads into those poetic spaces where closeness and unavailability, doubt and trust coexist.
Thomas Weiß takes over the recitation. The Protestant theologian, retired pastor, and widely published poet combines literary precision with theological reflection. His voice gives space to Rilke's verses and makes the subtle movements of narratives, images, and sound colors directly perceptible.
Music and Words in the Sign of the Week of Silence
At the piano, Fabian Ringlage accompanies the evening. The musical arrangement expands the reading into a concentrated interplay of language, resonance, and silence. In the small, manageable atmosphere of the Kleine Kirche, an intimate author encounter occurs with one of the most significant German-speaking poets of modernity.
The event takes place as part of the Week of Silence and the Karlsruhe Rilke Year 2026. The series invites attendees to hear Rilke's poems from different perspectives: as literature, as language art, and as a cultural discourse on meaning, transcendence, and the conditions of being human.
A Reading for Literature Lovers and Seekers
Those who love Rilke's lyricism will discover the spiritual dimension of his style this evening. Those approaching the author for the first time will experience an accessible introduction to his poetic world: a world of things, transformation, and growing attention. Recitation and piano create a sensual literary experience that does not educate but invites further contemplation.
