From Manga Pages to Flourishing Works of Art
When printed stories receive a second life, reading culture merges with sustainable design: In the Manga Upcycling workshop, decorative roses are created from old mangas with a touch of finesse and glue.
Creativity between Paper, Visual Language, and Sustainability
The event invites all interested individuals to create small art objects from discarded manga pages. The characteristic visual language of Japanese comics remains visible as a cultural trace, while paper, folding, and gluing techniques take on a new form.
The result is a handmade rose that serves as a personal memento or as a decorative unique piece for one’s home. The workshop combines low-threshold creative work with a mindful approach to existing materials.
Literary Experience with a Practical Note
In the Forum Lesen of the offerta, the world of books meets a sensory, practical experience. Amidst mangas, paper, and collaborative design, an open reading and literary atmosphere is created, where cultural participation becomes tangible not just through reading, but also through personal engagement.
The event by the Karlsruhe City Library targets those who appreciate manga as a literary and visual medium and wish to creatively rethink its aesthetic elements. Word art is complemented here by visual narration: from individual pages, a new object with its own meaning emerges.
Guest in the Forum Lesen of the offerta
The Forum Lesen is located in Hall 3 of the Karlsruhe Fair and is part of the literary and reading world of offerta 2026. There, the Karlsruhe City Library presents a program that combines literature, encounters, and creative formats.
Access to the event is through offerta. Visitors experience Manga Upcycling as a brief, focused author encounter with the medium itself – not through a single author but through the visual storytelling of manga culture.
