Experience the Collection Anew: Scene Change 4 at the Karlsruhe Art Museum

The tour through "Update! Re-evaluating the Collection – Scene Change 4" opens on October 16, 2026, offering an in-depth access to the current presentation of the collection at the Karlsruhe Art Museum. About 200 works by 70 artists engage in cross-media and cross-epoch dialogues across 1,500 square meters.

Art History in Lively Dialogue

The exhibition views the collection as a dynamic field of knowledge. Historical positions meet contemporary art, different visual languages and materials enter new relationships. Painting, drawing, photography, tapestry, and other artistic media reveal their impact not in isolation but in the tension-filled interplay of the curatorial arrangement.

Thematic Rooms between Identity and Otherness

The tour traverses thematic rooms addressing identity, rituals, nature, gender equality, home, and experiences of otherness. These perspectives connect art-historical classification with societal present. The observation of works makes visible how personal, cultural, and political questions are inscribed in forms, colors, materials, and spatial effects.

An Exhibition in Motion

The fourth scene change is the fifth re-presentation since 2023 and reacts to current societal debates. Overlays, a display depot, a research archive, and changing presentations of sensitive works on paper make museum work comprehensible. The exhibition atmosphere arises from the interplay between concentrated observation, surprising proximities, and open questions to the collection.

Cultural Education through Work Observation

The one-hour tour conveys art-historical expertise while inviting personal aesthetic experience. Visitors gain insights into curation, collection maintenance, and the significance of changing presentation forms. Thus, knowledgeable mediation combines with an immediate art experience in the museum.

Conclusion

The tour through "Update! Re-evaluating the Collection – Scene Change 4" shows how diverse and contemporary a museum collection can be interpreted. Art enthusiasts experience historical and contemporary positions in new constellations and gain a deeper insight into the curatorial work of the Karlsruhe Art Museum. A visit enriches cultural education and creates space for a sustainable aesthetic experience.
