Forgotten Places, Lively Stories: Lost Places in Karlsruhe
On Saturday, October 31, 2026, the City Museum at the Prinz-Max-Palais invites you to a free telephone tour through the special exhibition Lost Places in Karlsruhe. Photographs by Harald Wacker. Starting at 1 PM, Eva Unterburg will guide you comfortably by phone through the museum rooms and focus on the theme Tobacco, Malt, and Soap.
City History Through the Lens of Photography
Harald Wacker's photographs direct attention to places in Karlsruhe that no longer exist, have been forgotten, or repurposed. Decommissioned workplaces, vanished production sites, and former recreational areas appear as architectural memory images. Rust, shadows, empty corridors, and traces of use condense into a unique aesthetic of decay.
Tobacco, Malt, and Soap
The telephone tour takes participants to places where beer, tobacco products, and cosmetics were once produced. Thus, not only urban architecture and photographic composition are at the center, but also the economic and everyday history of the city of Karlsruhe. Selected objects from the City Museum's collection link the photographs with the former production worlds.
Barrier-Free Art Experience from Home
The tour allows cultural participation independent of an on-site museum visit. As a barrier-free offer, it opens access to the exhibition through concentrated listening, linguistic examination of the artworks, and imaginative visualization of the spaces.
