Classical Evening with Mendelssohn, Cartagena, and Beethoven in Karlsruhe
The Young Philharmonic Karlsruhe invites you to a special concert evening at the Paul-Gerhardt Community Center on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Under the leadership of Spanish conductor Xaime Irisarri, the orchestra combines romantic sound poetry, a world premiere, and Beethoven's powerful symphonic overture into a versatile classical program. Admission is free.
Colorful Sound World: Mendelssohn's Beautiful Melusine
The evening opens with Felix Mendelssohn's The Tale of the Beautiful Melusine. The romantic concert overture unfolds a mysterious atmosphere, where flowing orchestral colors, fine woodwind lines, and dramatic climaxes intertwine. The conducting of Xaime Irisarri brings the individual sound groups together into a transparent orchestration.
World Premiere with Warm English Horn
A special highlight follows with the world premiere of the Concerto for English Horn and Orchestra by Aday Cartagena. Soloist Raquel Alberca places the characteristic, warm sound of the English horn in the spotlight. In collaboration with the orchestra, special musical colors and an exciting dialogue between solo stage performance and symphonic sound emerge.
Beethoven's Cheerful Symphonic Departure
To conclude, Ludwig van Beethoven's 1st Symphony in C major will be performed. The work combines classical clarity of form with surprising accents, dance-like lightness, and powerful dynamics. The live experience makes it clear how precise synchronization, rhythmic energy, and orchestral balance shape the character of this early symphony.
Concert Introduction Before Start
45 minutes before the concert begins, the audience will be greeted with an introduction. The focus will be on the participants, the composers, and the works performed. The introduction offers expert insight into the program and sets the mood for the live atmosphere of the concert evening.
